What is Pharmacology?
Pharmacology is the science of how drugs and other compounds interact with biological systems from the molecule to the cell to the organ to the whole of a human body or a dog or any living organism.
The two main areas of Pharmacology are
- Pharmacodynamics
- Pharmacokinetics
Understanding Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics:
When any drug is administered or given to a person we can ask below two questions
Question# 1:
What is drug's perspective? in other way
What does the drug do to the body? How intense of an effect it have? Where does it have that effect?
This is called Pharmacodynamics, the study of drugs ("Pharm") and what they do to change ("dynamics") our bodies.
Question# 2:
What is body's perspective? in other way
What does the body do to the drug after it is taken?
This is called Pharmacokinetics, the study of drugs ("Pharm") and their movement ("kinetics") throughout the body.
